The 2019/20 curling season was another success as membership remained steady and competition within the club keeps improving.
All leagues showed increased numbers and prove to be as popular as ever: Monday morning ladies program has 4 sheets as the norm and the numbers continue to grow when there were special days; Day curling always had steady numbers for the four days and the 3 bonspiels were full; Tuesday morning curling has grown to 4 sheets and a wealth of spares: Wednesday fixed and Thursday mixed leagues had more teams this season and there is no doubt that this trend will continue. Our club bonspiels were well attended last season by members from all leagues – great to see and that trend should continue.
The introduction of Friday evening curling opportunities – second year of open mixed curling, third year of doubles, and 4th year of the Hopspiel – gave the opportunity for members to get together and for people who have never or seldom curled to get on the ice and give it a try.
Learn 2 Curl continues to be a very successful program for our club and many of the L2Cers have moved to the regular leagues, bringing enthusiasm and their new skills.
Our Little Rock program is another success with very good numbers this year, as well we have a U18 group this year as this is the future of our club, our school program expanded too this year bringing in kids from all the local elementary and high schools in Almonte to try the sport. The future looks bright as we continue to grow our youth programs.
As you all know Curling clubs across this country cannot be successful without the volunteer engines that run them. All of the programs I just mentioned are run by club volunteers, as are club events, ice maintenance and club management. We appreciate everyone who contributes and I encourage you to think about what you can do to support the club.
ACC is also fortunate to have some very generous sponsors that fund our different programs as well as enable us to upgrade our on ice equipment, so I would encourage you to support our sponsors. Mention that you saw their ad at the club, keep them coming back!
In closing I would like to recognize all of the members for the fine curling, the Executive who manage the club operations, the folks that rent this facility to curl, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills who we have a fantastic relationship with, and our sponsors, in making this a truly successful year for the ACC. We see the future as very bright in the this coming curling season.
Have a great and safe curling season in 2019/20.
We Are the ACC
